What's buzzing or flying near you 2024 ?

I've seen this bee quite a lot recently in my garden. The app Seek says it's a broad handed leaf cutter bee but the same app thought my leg was a Portuguese man o war! Does anyone know if it is a leaf cutter bee?

 

I get leaf cutters in and around my greenhouse they use the drainage holes in my cactus pots as places to lay their 'eggs' for want of a better word.

I've not seen them on flowers, I usually only see them hovering around,with or without pieces of leaf.
Mine are gone by this late in the summer.

 

I'd say it's definitely a leafcutter bee. There are several species which are difficult to tell apart, but the yellow/orange underside visible in your last photo is the giveaway.

I see these quite often on the buddleia - a large hoverfly Volucella pellucens.

A three hour Osprey Cruise around Poole Harbour this morning, several distant Ospreys, White Tailed Eagles, Common Seal and a juvenile Sandwich tern.

 

I’ve been watching the osprey nest at Poole Harbour this season via their webcam, they’ve had an incredible season raising 4 chicks. I wonder if you saw any of them! I zoomed in on your photo but couldn’t read a ring number. Lucky you, I’d love to do the Osprey Cruise

Loads of dragonflies around the garden today. Working in the workshop this morning we kept hearing this knocking sound. We had the strip light on and then saw one dragonfly "attacking" the light and this was the knocking sound. Very strange.

 

@CatDouch We did see both parents, CJ7 and 022 catch fish but not the juveniles. Several others were migrant ones passing through. They are doing 2 'Osprey Cruises' a day for two weeks as it is peak migration time for them. We are lucky to be near the nest site and Poole Harbour.
I will go on a couple of Winter cruises in December and January.
