Sadly we are one Goldfinch less as the male Sparrowhawk paid a visit this afternoon.

We had some swallows over the garden today. Thought they had all gone.

I cleaned and refilled the bird baths today, which made Mr Blackbird very happy.

Another trip over to Brownsea Island, only a short time in the hides as we had booked a tour of the castle and grounds (and included a cream tea) which is not usually open to the public, just to John Lewis and Waitrose employees to stay.
Some of the Spoonbills which are now around 60.

Forgot to post these yesterday, although I put some on another thread somewhere.
The sparrows are loving the fluffy seedheads from the early clematis

but no - he wasn't having any of that.

They're very entertaining to watch just now. Makes washing the dishes quite enjoyable

Surprised to see a brimstone butterfly this afternoon in the garden. We saw many speckled woods and some red admirals and of course the large whites. But a brimstone now, very unusual for us but lovely to see.

Another (or the same) brimstone today with quite a few speckled woods. Little egret flying over the house. A damsel fly flitting about and some bees still on the flower heads.

Well over a 100 field fares over the garden this morning. Then (maybe) another huge flock (or the same one) flew over going in the same direction. 2 dragonflies but too quick to even see their colours, speckled woods still around and 1 red admiral sun bathing on the fence.

Over 20 jackdaws decided to put on their hob nailed boots and march up and down on our roof this morning. Never known that to happen before. What were they after? Insects caught under the tiles/gutters? Since then they have been flying around the house and garden in a flock and then suddenly stooping and then swirling back up. Very odd but interesting to watch.
