Three broods! Goodness, that is very good indeed @Escarpment . They must feel safe and secure. My pair I think had two broods, coming into the garden for resting, feeding, drinking ( and showering, under my soft flow hose). I find the female interacts with me more than the male. It makes going into the garden much more special. Yours sounds lovely. I wonder where their young broods go. I suppose they have to find new territory, but not sure how far away is typical.

This morning a bigger flock of starlings over the garden shortly followed by a small number of redwings.
Find it interesting that we now have many magpies around but hadn't noticed them for some months. Where do they go?

A very dull, cloudy start this morning but looking up into the partly dead Acacia there were 30 Goldfinches and only 6 can get on the 2 feeders! Not bad numbers considering we are on a housing estate. Unfortunately the dead branches will have to come down which will no doubt upset them.

The geese are continuing their migration. It seems where I'm living now is under their flight path as I've seen (and heard) hundreds flying over in the last month. :) I still don't know what species they are though.

I saw two little long tailed tits on my walk yesterday. In a bare tree right by the pavement - a bit like @strongylodon's pic but slightly less busy!
That's when I wish I had one of those phones so that I could quickly get a pic. They're just the most delightful little birds. I remember sitting by the river after doing Beinn Bhuide in Loch Fyne, and a flock of them appeared at that moment on the opposite bank. It was a lovely end to the day.

Great photo @hydrogardener . Makes you smile when that sort of thing happens :)

Still some speckled woods flying around.
Had a green woodpecker on the cut paths in the orchard and a beautiful mistle thrush feeding on the fallen apples. A few field fares flew over this morning.

It makes you wonder how such a tiny bird can sing such a loud song, Carolina Wren.

@Sheal - they did an item on Landward [?] last week, and it seems to be pink footed geese that are the main ones where you are.

Our wrens are also very loud, often you can't even spot them but you can certainly hear them.

The local Sparrowhawk was back so the garden suddenly emptied.

                            Sorry @fairygirl , I don't know what 'Landward' is - if it's a tv programme then I can't watch it, I don't have a tv.

They could be Pink Footed Geese but those here are all flying south-west. That wouldn't make sense?

They were probably just on a local trip.

Apparently when they migrate they fly at up to 23,000ft.

                              That's aeroplane height @pete . I wouldn't want to meet a skein in a plane. :yikes:

I'm wondering if they're more likely to be Greylags, it makes more sense with their flight direction.
