And what was that annoying helicopter doing @burnie apart from scaring all the birds off?

It was the coast guard on a call out, not heard what the incident was, but they were working, so something we have to accept

Great excitement....male & female greenfinches. Haven't seen them in our garden for many years. Lovely to have them back.
Green woodpecker out in the orchard and 2 collared doves.
Fieldfares in their tens feeding on the fallen apples and not fighting.
                So many blackbirds as well.
Then the blue/great tits amassing on the feeders.
All good to see and watch their antics while having a pause café or lunch.

@On the Levels, Very few Fieldfares recorded in Dorset so far and Redwing numbers are also low.

One Greenfinch has been around recently and still lots of Goldfinches with a couple of Siskins today in the snow showers.

I'm sure I could hear siskins in the bushes on the golf course yesterday. We usually see them in February. I shall have to keep an eye on the bird feeder for any visitors to confirm. Chattery little things.

@stronglodon this morning we had a huge flock of fieldfares fly over the house, probably close to 1000. There are still some in the orchard and today they are squabbling especially with the blackbirds.

Two parakeets turned up today. They come every now and then. Managed to photo them through the kitchen window. They didn't eat much and then were off. Everyone round here loves them.

We used to get siskins quite often in a previous garden, but I've only had them once or twice in this one. They jink in and out of conifers a lot.
Those green parakeets are a pain. We have an established colony in one of the Glasgow parks, and a few years ago we started getting them coming across here - presumably from that park. I live near a NT garden, and would often see them in and around the trees along the nearby road leading to the farm, which borders the garden too. We would see them flying overhead, screeching away, presumably going back and forth to that park, as that was the direction they went. They've been in my garden once or twice. Not seen them so much in recent years.

Although an exotic non native which some like to see in flocks they have been known to be the cause of the decline in Woodpeckers where the Parakeets are as they take over their nest holes.
