Hi all, I was watching a rather large wasp today, it was on one of our wooden garden chairs. As I watched it I saw it's head moving ever so slightly. A couple of minutes later it was still there but a little lower down the chair. I took a closer look and the wasp was gnawing at the chair and leaving a line as it went along! The very top layer of the chair stain was being removed. I got my camera but right on time it flew away. The wasp left a line of teeth/jaw marks. Looking at the chair there were lots of these lines! Has anyone else seen this? Or know what the wasp was up to?

Using the chewed wood to make a Nest, Gazania!!!:hate-shocked::runforhills::heehee: They make a paste out of it to construct a "papery" nest, very clever!!!

First thing this morning he was there again! He goes away for quite a long time then returns. There are marks all over the chair! Better buy some Wasp-ease just in case.

Try and follow him to see where he's off to. It maybe somewhere you would rather he didn't go,

He's just turning a plain garden chair into a carved chair for you!! You might turn up and find just a sprinkle of sawdust if he brings his friends!!:heehee:

After the sad news about the swan yesterday, I thought this may cheer us up as it isn't always bad news .
I was sitting at my PC yesterday late afternoon with the patio door open , Mr Namaste out reading on the patio - about 5.30pm. There was a soft thud and I looked over and saw a little bird had hit the door mantle and dropped onto the door sill. It blinked a bit, then nothing; it was lying on its side. Mr Namaste came in and sat in the doorway so that, if it came round and panicked, it wouldn't fly into the room. After 5 minutes, Mr Namaste said "come on little chap - you've got to get home as she and the kids will be starting to worry". And - with that - he was up, up and away.... :yay:

I'm off to check my loft :yikes: I'm hoping that I would have noticed a few more wasps around if they were building a nest in or near the house! I think in my life I've been stung twice by wasps, and once by a bee :ouch1:

Had to go to Swanage early so I thought I would visit Durlston CP again. Not much different than before but a few pics anyway.
Common Whitethroats were everywhere but this one shows off their name.

                          Singing everywhere too.

A very brief glimpse of a Black Redstart which never showed itself again.

Lots of Guillemots in the sea below the cliffs.
