Not sure what this is

Looks like a young starling to me but the beak looks almost big enough to be a woodpecker. It was there for about an hour and only had a go at the peanuts and not the seeds.

Young Starlings Shiney, in their first moult.:blue thumb:

Some Bar Tailed Godwits are back from a short break breeding in the Northern Tundra, some still in their Summer plumage, quite a few juveniles as well, hundreds more will be arriving in Poole harbour in the next few months.

In the far distance about 1/4 of a mile away I noticed the Little Egret roost. This is the best I could do at full zoom, about 25 in the trees and a few more in the bay.

Up on the cliffs near Tyneham (deserted village) there were some distant Ravens, there were seven altogether, one seems to have lost some wing feathers.
The Diamond shaped tail and noisy honk is very distinctive compared to Crows.

I accidentally saw this shieldbug's relative, Corizus hyoscyami. Here in the UK we don't seem to have a common name for it but its Dutch common name is Cinnamon Bug.

This one is big and menacing looking. I threw a dried holly leaves near it to give us some perspective

Yes, bottom up:thumbsup:. I watched this honeybee drinking from my banana flower for nearly 5 minutes. she didn't move much at all apart from wagging her tail a little bit. In the end she was so full she seemed to have a bit trouble taking off.

A bonny little chap, Strongy. I have a juvenile who still pops by from time to time and enjoys muesli and suet,

Still got plenty up here in Alnwick in Northumberland and on Wednesday evening, whilst birdwatching at Druridge Bay, I came upon a nest with four young in it on one of the beams in the hide :blue thumb: Mum Swallow flew in through the open windows to feed the youngsters as I sat watching the waders outside.
We've lost our swifts however....last sighting for me was Friday 8th August - I hate it when these gorgeous screamers leave our skies :cry3:
The buddleia in our courtyard is absolutely HEAVING with butterflies at the moment - Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock and Red Admiral and the occasional Large White.

My sunflowers took a battering in the winds and rain last week and the sunflower which was over 18foot tall started to list badley, so i had to cut it down, put some of the heads in a bucket of water and the biggest one in an old bush and it's slowly being eaten DSCF6293.JPG

Could it be all your aphids are here with me:scratch:? We are getting fed up with squashing them:gaah:. Luckily I've got lots of ladybird as well, unluckily the aphids breed faster than ladybirds can eat them, but as the saying goes - every little helps

Here are a couple of snap shots of ladybird larvae
