Looks like you're spot on there Sheal, it does seem to be the Western Conifer Seed Bug. Thanks for that, I just knew GC wouldn't let me down. :dbgrtmb:

I see pines and firs are among its favourite host plants, which makes sense. There are several mature Scots pines in the property across the road from us, and a neighbour's garden a few doors down the road contains a huge fir.

@Spruce I thought it would fly as it was listed amongst the shield bugs. :)

You're welcome @Trunky. It was the shape that got me started, luckily I looked at the shield bug images first so it didn't take long to track down. :)

to be honest with you Sheal it was sitting on top of the tap in the bathroom , and at first I thought it was a cockroach , my mums place is surrounded with very old conifers , it flew off when I threw it out of the window , well it sort of glided and I had to flick it off my hand as it griped on and took a couple of shakes to get it off :yikes::hate-shocked:

Not surprised Spruce. You'd be grumpy too if someone was trying to throw you out of a window.

There I was, lurking under the cherry tree, determined to get a good photo of bee-on-flower, and look who dropped in?

@Spruce ... thank you for the reminder ... there were house martins here when we viewed this property - must keep an eye out to see if they come back

Saw this fat fella when I was on my walk this morning ... not a brilliant photo, but the best the zoom could do on this el cheapo camera - you can just make him out on the bottom right piece of blossom
