At the moment it`s about the size of a cotton reel, old type, so I will knock it off tomorrow, it`s over the top of the door, and my mower and other tools live in there, I cannot keep him out as gaps all over the place, hopefully he will move on.:hate-shocked:

Mr c, I wish I had them nesting here. There are still hundreds of Swallows coming in from the Channel down here and lots of Swifts too.

Loli, I bet it all went quiet when she arrived.!

Tadnoll Nature reserve this morning, two square miles of lowland Heath next to the decommissioned Winfrith Nuclear Power Station. I was hoping to see Hobby and Cuckoo but saw (nor heard) neither.

                  thank you @strongylodon ,

I haven't heard our local cuckoo since the day I heard it - about 3 weeks back?
Does that mean that they are not "calling " for a mate to pair up with? ie - the jobs done and no longer need to do it again?

In the privet hedge between ours and the neighbours' garden is an old rusty post, the last remnant of a fence which disappeared many years ago.

It is used almost every year by tits as a nesting site and they're back again this year. They are quite happy to pop in and out feeding their chicks while we potter about in the garden, so yesterday Mrs Trunky settled down in a chair with her long lens at the ready to see if she could get some good shots. This is the best of the bunch. :)

Jenny I think they will mate with different females, if they can find them, as there are so few coming here annually now and should call through till the middle of June, perhaps your has lost it's voice!!

@Spruce is there a good website for identifying bees? I would love to know what is buzzing around, I see quite a few of the large orangey "bumbles" (as on the apple blossom photo, and the fleece), as well as the classic black and yellow striped fellas. I have a fighting start with the butterflies (breaking news - first swallowtails have been spotted in the region) but haven't a clue with the bees.

Thanks in advance (and apologies if you are always seem to be answering this question!)

The nest in the ivy outside my office window is very busy at the moment. At first I thought it was a robin's nest but now I think it may be a wren's nest.

I can't tell what the bird(s) are as it moves so fast and just across the window, and we're not able to see it coming because of shrubs.

It appears to be very precarious. Not a good shot because it's through the glass.
