What's Buzzing or Flying near you today... 2015

@shiney Could be Magnolias? Can't swear to it though, can't see the leaves very clearly through these old eyes.

Just rescued this fledgling Great Tit from the clutches of the cat. It flew off into a bush after a while, hopefully fully recovered.



Cat is now hiding in the bushes and giving me evil stares.

 

It's a very stressful time for parents and fledglings but it is all part of Nature and there are many other raptors and ground predators that keep the numbers down naturally. It's when it happens in our own back yard that it's hard for us too isn't it,

Yes, we have some human raptors that are shooting nesting Rooks and the other day they were shooting into the nest as there was only a few Rooks flying about

Rooks used to be told of a landowner's death. The new landowner would stand under a rookery and give the news, usually adding the promise that only he and his friends would be allowed to shoot the birds in future. If he neglected the ceremony, the birds would desert the rookery - an evil omen in itself. This forecast the loss of the land and downfall of the family through poverty.

Marvellous pics everyone...

 

Not having much joy with technology today. For some reason the laptop is refusing to behave as a laptop. As soon as I unplug it, so I can sit in a comfy seat to upload photos, it shuts down.

Now, because I dared to attempt this bizarre behaviour, it's going through a full disk diagnostic, so I can't download my photos of the first damsel fly of the season...

Because they know, you know, the birds I mean, they are now exhibiting all sorts of behaviour that is interesting and photogenic. Earlier, we had a magpie "anting" under the cherry tree. Aggravating an ants nest, so that they respond with formic acid, thought to help against bird mites. And just now, there is a rook bringing his trophy dried bread from a neighbour's garden to our birdbath, to rehydrate it before eating it.

Once the camera is up and running again, so will they be!!

Went for a walk around Holten Lee NR this morning before going to 'work' and immediately heard a Cuckoo calling and I managed to find him but I couldn't get close even though he was about 50 yards away and had his back to me .

 

nice to see a piccie at all Strongy - a rather shy bird isn't it ? Still haven't heard ours again,
