@Spruce , could you confirm if this is a European hornet? The reason I'm asking I'd I think it is currently trying to force its way out of the mounting plate of the central light fitting in the living room....
Not sure if I should give up my sofa.:sofa:

Phew! Thank you @Spruce . I couldn't believe that we could have them as neighbours two years running!! (Were definitely hornets last year...)

So the reddish tinge to the antennae and head part of the main ID?

:biggrin:Drove up to our local disused airfield this evening with Mr Kandy and on the way back we heard the purring of the Turtle Doves that we have been trying to hear for the last three years and we also think we might have seen the pair in flight a minute later but not too sure.Been thirty odd years since we last heard the purr but the minute we heard it we both new what it was:biggrin:

Also on the way back along the concrete track we spied a Muntjac nibbling on the lush grass and managed to get a couple of photos and a recording on my camera of its bark:snork:

Back home went onto Facebook and someone was selling a nearly new bird table in the village so message sent address, got and off I went. The starting price had been £10 two hours before I saw the post, then it had been reduced to £8 so as far as I am concerned it was a bargain.:snork:Oops sorry this last bit wasnt buzzing or flying but it will soon have lost of flying birdies once I stock it up with seed tomorrow.Worth missing some of Chelsea on the telly:biggrin:

A not so common Common Lizard, well done Jenny lovely shot and so pleased to
                    meet you at last.

When I got home from Shiney's I found out that the rare Red Footed Falcon seen here Friday was still around by the busy Wareham to Swanage road so I went to the bridge over the River Frome to see if it was still about and after half an hour she briefly showed herself but flying very fast I couldn't get a decent shot, they breed in Eastern Europe to Russia so well out of it's range.
I'll go tomorrow morning for another look.

I've noticed this hopping around my garden for a few weeks now, this however was the first time I was able to get a shot of it and it is through my kitchen window so not too brilliant an image, but it does show quite clearly what is missing!

We have house martins nesting under our eaves.
They were here last year when we were in between purchasing the property, so, thrilled they have nested again this year.
Not easy to get a picture, but, this is the best I was able to achieve ...

... just see two little heads peeking out of the nest ...
