A couple of hours spent around Middlebere farm and channel (Poole Harbour). The track to the farm NT holiday cottages are a magnet for Autumn migrants on their way to the coast.
One of three Whinchats seen today.

Back of a juvenile Redstart, far off but at least the orange/red tail can be seen.

We're pleased to see that some of our pheasants are back after a three month absence. :hapydancsmil:

When Oscar the cat was in residence in our greenhouse the pheasants always nested, and lived, in the garden. For generations the babies used to play with him :blue thumb: and one family were actually born in the Jerusalem sage patch 3ft from the door of the greenhouse (and 6ft from our back door).

Since he died they've been much more cautious about nesting and coming into the garden. We've gradually managed to get Sarafi (the cat from down the road) to stop bothering the birds and he spends most of his day either sleeping in the greenhouse or in the covered pergola.

One of those young lads seems to have either lost some of his neck feathers or hasn't grown them yet

Hundreds and hundreds of Swallows and House Martins flying around frantically feeding through the valley and on the cliff tops along the coast. The trees and scrub were alive with Blackcaps, Chiffchaff and a few Redstarts and Whitethroats.
Three others getting ready to leave soon:
Whinchat and Wheatear together with a juvenile Goldfinch between them.

Only saw a solitary Red Admiral (in beautiful condition, but wouldn't stay still) at the plot this afternoon when the sun came out, so resorted to chasing Craneflies and Grasshoppers in search of a subject

Then spotted this (Shield?) Bug on an old car tyre I use for weighting stuff down

I virtually gave up at seeing much at the Middlebere hide this morning until the Great White Egret flew down the channel, a recent arrival and hopefully a long stayer.
It was on the other side of the channel so too far away for a decent shot but it's yellow beak is distinctive, it was 'buzzed' by a Little Egret.
