I was absolutely thrilled to bits tonight, I was in the garden with the hens doing a few odds & ends when I heard this wonderful noise looked up to the sky....

to see a flock of geese, then to my absolute amazement another flock slightly larger than the first, it was fantastic, the noise was incredible :)

Gosh, I didn't know that magpies paired for life :dbgrtmb:, I shall try not to be so hard on them in future.
We've had a couple of magpies here this year which had clearly fledged, they were so fluffy :heehee:, they did have something cute about them I have to admit :)

image.jpg Filled up the bird feeders this morning & within seconds this little fella came for breakfast! I think he's a gold finch, nibbling away at the Niger seed!

I think what's strange about geese is that they are trumpeting on the wing, it's something we don't expect to hear. :)

Birds have fled my garden this summer no idea why suppose cat doesn't help, but the pigeons have nested in the fir tree again.
We get about half a dozen sparrows who feed off the mealworms by the window, then the rest return to feed off the table. We do have a lot of buzzards and sparrow Hawks.

A few more Yellow Wagtails, there was a small flock of 12 later joined by Pied Wagtails and Meadow Pipits. They will be on their way South soon not returning until next April.

This Shag is standing on a fossilised algae burr which surrounded a Cypress tree millions of years ago.

We went for a walk along the Severn Estuary near to Oldbury Power Station early in the week. The tide was at its lowest, far out on the muddy river bed we saw some gulls, ducks, a pair of herons and a few curlews
