Not quite the photographic standard as most of our members, but captured these a little while ago:

A bee taking a little rest

    CIMG0001 (1024x868).jpg

And then, to my pure delight, one of the blue tits that have made their home in my garden just happened to fly past me and land on the fence ...

    CIMG0004 (768x1024).jpg

... before making its way home.

    CIMG0005 (769x1024).jpg

All the more surprising because, not only was I sat a few feet away, but look who's right below their home (!)

            That's a lovely photo @Sheal :blue thumb:

The Doves seem to be coping with disturbance fairly well. :) We were extremely busy in the garden yesterday with wheelbarrows clattering past the nest, lots of movement backwards and forwards and pressure hosing nearby. I started the pressure hosing about 30ft from them and worked towards just 10ft from them. Mrs Shiney was also doing a lot of potting up and repotting not too far from the bird feeders, which kept the bigger birds away but the small birds (mainly tits, finches, robins and sparrows) didn't seem too bothered.

At first the doves disappeared but one was back on the nest a couple of hours later. The only difference is that instead of its head peering over the top of the wooden edge, its tail was sticking up instead. The tail was like that until late evening and then it turned round to peer over the top.

When I was digging down at the end of the garden one of our six robins came to perch on my shoulder as usual. He doesn't seem to mind me turning my head to look at him but he flies away immediately if I try to talk to him. :noidea: It's amazing how quickly he flies down to grab worms and it's a bit disturbing to suddenly have his wing fluttering against my ear when he takes off. :)

Talking of solid bases, here's a coot nesting on a lift pump in front of the energy from waste plant at work:

I have seen several of these small birds at our feeder lately. After looking it up I believe it is a Carolina Wren, and if so it is a long way from Carolina here in New York. Carolina Wren.jpg

Nice shot:dbgrtmb:, it seems to be bigger than our Wren which is insectivorous and as far as I know never visits feeders.

Don't know what this fellow is, but (s)he is not happy, as I've just filled in the nesting hole you can see just above.

I know, we are supposed to encourage wildlife, but this is literally 10" away from our door. No, we can't use the "back" door for the summer, as we only have one externally lockable door! Sorry mate!

Here you can see the bee landed, with the filled in hole in the mortar above.

Insect in flight, but you can see the true colour (and the gold hairs) better in this.

Any idea who I have just made homeless?

A couple of interesting finds in the wild area in my garden today. Had to look them both up, hope I've identified them correctly.

This moth had attached itself to a cowslip, I think it's an Angle Shades moth.

An update: It turns out the lagoons of leachate have a lot of insects in them so there's plenty to eat. I went to have a look on Friday but no eggs there and couldn't see any ducklings, so either eaten or hatched. I suspect eaten as no egg shells but it was very windy, at least someone benefits. Good 'ole nature.
