Parent birds often remove the shells after hatching to keep the nest area clean and hygienic as possible they will usually drop them some distance from the nest site to confuse predators,

Mallards will return to the nest for a while to brood there chicks, also if a parent is leaving the nest undisturbed she will hide the eggs so you would have to move a few feathers to see them,

I do hope they have hatched and gone on there way thanks for the update :).

Here is a hatched pigeon egg that was found in my garden the other day no nest in my garden the parent moved it clear of her nest.

      Update on doves:

They're quite used to us now. They seem to take turns on the nest and I think that I can see when they have changed over. On of them sits with its head poking above the wood and looks at us. The other sits the other way round with the tip of its tail sticking over the wood. We haven't seen the changeover yet.

Some of the time they are both on the bird feeder.

Update on brown bird looking like a finch: pretty sure ( according to my old dad) it's a female bullfinch.

A rare female Red Footed Falcon turned up yesterday at Morden Bog, a mile away from me.
Fortunately it was there today but I failed to get any clear shots of her as I took the Canon sx50 out and couldn't get one in focus out of 40 (back to the Panasonic I think).
A young female came here last May, there is an outside possibility it is the same bird, or another, off course by hundreds of miles!
She may not stay long as the newly arrived (bigger) Hobbys will chase her off.

A Woodlark thought it could hide from me by sitting at the side of the path, it didn't work!

Not a big bird then strongylodon but very nice, on some land i have permission to metal detect we have breeding Hobbys, lovely to watch them in flight,

I've watched a few videos on them catching dragon fly's, I usually see them after swallows, I will see if I can locate this years nest and get a few pictures,

Me and the farmer keep it quite were they are, but we do contact a trust who come out and ring them.

... the House Martins have come home!!! :hapydancsmil: :yahoo: :hapfeet: :yay:

So, so pleased!!! I was sat having my morning cuppa and then - swoosh! - they circled overhead (this being the back garden and their home being in the eaves at the front of the house) and circled around the house several times. Now, I did have my camera with me, but, it simply isn't up to the job of capturing such speedy antics.

I shall try and capture something as the season progresses. But, like last year, they may not be the best of shots; but they will be captures of my most favourite of house guests :wub2:
