Well, not flying anymore, sorry to post this here if it upsets anyone but I'm wondering how it happened.

I discovered what looks like a partly devoured ring neck dove wedged way up in a mature Ceanothus. There are feathers scattered around on the ground below and at some distance on the ground, but the carcass itself is stuck in the branches also with scattered feathers here and there. Seen this on the ground before, usually a cat I think, but never 8ft up in a shrub. I'm a bit squeamish about such things so it is just stuck there for the time being ...

I agree with Jiffy. The scattered feathers are a tell-tale sign. A cat wouldn't pluck them out.

image.jpg image.jpeg image.jpeg Spotted(scuse pun):snorky: this baby Great Spotted Woodpecker on the side of the country road outside of our village this morning as we were driving back from ur early morning walk so quickly got him to turn the car round and did a quick rescue after slowing down some cars and put him/her somewhere safe for mum to get to him as she was alarming quiet loudly:snorky:

Doubt if I shall ever get that close to a baby Great Spotted Woodpecker ever again in my lifetime:snorky:
PS,the silly photos come out in the wrong order so the one of it on the road should have been first but you get the jist:biggrin:

I've been watching Springwatch too, not been to the Glens for a couple of weeks, but we have pretty much all the raptors in Britain in the county, White Tailed Eagles did try to nest but some "person" on the estate felled the tree!!

Ah, never seen a Sparrow Hawk around here, actually don't think I've ever seen one in the flesh so will look it up.

                  Thanks

                            :heehee: Maybe :heehee: ....

... you see *I* thought he was telling us how twice the lorry had almost taken him off the road when he was undertaking it?
Or ... if not that, then he was indicating the two occasions Mr "M" sounded his horn when he tried to cut us up? :dunno: Or ... perhaps he was trying to tell us that he was already using the two brain cells that he possessed and how dare we expect more?

Who can know all the nuances of wild life :heehee:
