I've seen blackbirds do it but I didn't know it was called anting!

Woodpeckers also do it along with many other birds but usually on the ground where the ants are. Otherwise it could be sunning itself as @martin-f said.
        Very clear pic @CanadianLori.:dbgrtmb:

Strange coincidence as I said I hadn't seen a Puffin for many years and one has turned up off the cliffs here at Durlston Country Park near Swanage. It was swimming around eith the Guillemots and Razorbills, there may possibly be a couple of pairs further along the coast. Still can't get a sharp pic even with another new camera.:frown:

@CanadianLori what is the weather like over your way at the moment because I have seen Wood Pigeons over here in the UK acting like this when the weather is hot and the birds are trying to lose body heat especially if there isn't a supply of water about to enable them to drink:)

Lovely photo of the Blue Jay especially as blue is my favourite colour.:snorky: Will have to do some research as I am not to sure what the habits are of such a pretty bird:biggrin:

@Kandy It was around 86f that day. He is squatting next to my diy bird bath/solar fountain which the robins use every day. :)

I'm too slow with my camera but I will keep trying to get a picture of the humming birds enjoying the nicotiana and other flowers. :)

I just managed a quick photo of the bird on the nest. He looks almost ready to leave home.

If it was 86f then I Definetley think he was trying to lose body heat.Sometimes with animals and birds they don't see what is in front of them:snorky:

Would be nice to see piccys of hummingbirds, and I wished we got those and the Blue Jays over here, although my favourite bird is the Kingfisher which is another stunningly coloured bird:yes:

Stunning bird and photography @burnie and so nice that these magnificent birds are starting to spread out across the country and we recently have had a couple feeding round our local waters so suspect they are juveniles not yet old enough to breed but the pull to come back to the UK was too strong so they are dipping a toe in so to speak before departing back to Africa in the Autumn:smile:

A very imposing bird:dbgrtmb:, they should be coming down here at the end of August through to early October and stay for quite a while but always too far away off for a shot like that!

Thanks folks, that Osprey is on an island some 300 or more metres away, had to crop the image a bit, helps having a large lens and a big camera sensor too. There's 4 chicks in the nest about 3 metres to the right, but they had their heads down when I visited this time.
