Cinnabar moth (thanks A) and a boring pigeon i usually scare them off but he's doing a good job cleaning the bits of food up that the goldfinch drop, I was getting over run with rats so stopped feeding the birds for a while.

Same here @martin-f I chase the woodies off but occasionally let them hoover up what the others have dropped on the ground, I put two strands of wire around the bird table which lets all the other birds in but not the pigeons.

On my Sweet Williams, I had ... a Hummingbird Hawk-moth!! :yahoo: :hapfeet:
No photograph, simply because by the time I'd run upstairs to get it and run down the stairs and out into the garden, it had gone. But, what a fascinating thing it is!

The baby blackbirds have now flown the nest and the robins went the other week. All hatched and flown.

The robin's nest doesn't look much but it's surprising how much moss they put into it. When we saw that they were taking the moss from our hanging baskets we placed a basket full of moss next to the open door of the greenhouse (where they were making the nest). They used 75% of the moss from the basket!

                      Most peculiar!!!!!!

After I dropped Mrs Shiney off at the station this morning (1.5 miles down our road) I spotted a kestrel flying overhead.

When I got home there was another kestrel sitting on top of our laurel hedge in the front. His flying off must have disturbed another bird in the field across the road and it took off. It was a red kite.

The peculiar thing was that we've never had a kestrel in our garden (we've been here 44 years) and we have never seen a red kite anywhere near here.

Our window cleaner turned up just then and he confirmed it's a red kite.

@shiney it shows that even Kestrels are finding it hard to collect enough food to feed themselves and their chicks so possibly had spotted a mouse in your garden especially as you like us feed the birds and there will always be dropped seed that even the pheasants might miss:smile:

So nice to see that Red Kites are now populating areas that were free of them for so long after they were all persecuted and you probably know that once upon a time Kites used to live amongst us especially in London where you grew up and were great scavengers of waste that filled the streets and gutters many years ago until man decided to drive them all away:sad:

Nightjar unusually visible in the day time. It's cryptic plumage makes it difficult to see at all.

This is the view from the new visitor Centre at Arne RSPB, near here and if you can see the large Oak tree in the centre of the pic this is where it has been roosting for the last two weeks and can be seen all day from the cafe.

Wow @strongylodon what a fantastic spot with that Nightjar and lucky you and all the visitors to see such a beautiful bird especially during the daylight hours:blue thumb:

We were fortunate to see them in Parkhurst Forest during the nineties during dusk time when they come out to hawk for moths and their churring was quiet spooky to hear.We also saw that night our first ever glow worms and also had two ghostly Barn Owls fly through the forest as well that evening:yes:

Also love your bugs on the bindweed flower and also the photo of the Spotted Flycatcher:blue thumb:
