Heard our first skylark this year, they have moved to a different field now as farmer has ploughed up where it used to nest

Playing outside my office this morning. A bit blurred because of the glass.

Not near me unfortunately, but Loli had a boysey pheasant hanging round her garden when I spoke to her the other day, she texted me to say he's now moved in with her chickens :chicken:

Thought one flew past me while I was on the roof last week, but I didn't see it again.

Not flying but he was running around so fast he could have been buzzing.

He's been collecting dropped seed and rushing back to the flower bed alongside and not in view for more than a minute. Do you think he is eating it under cover or has got a nest in the bed and taking back.

I'm assuming he's a field mouse but don't know. I've cleaned up the picture as much as possible as it was taken through a window.

Hi @shiney you little mouse does look like a field mouse in your photos:smile:

The reason why he is dashing about is out in the open he is a sitting target for the local Sparrowhawk/cat population so he is living in the fast lane to live another day.He/she could have youngsters as it is the right time of the year so is collecting food to help produce milk for any babies in a nest.

I have only seen a couple of Swallows so far, they are late and several other early Summer migrants are late or 'missing' with far fewer sightings than the last few years including Wheatears, Ring Ousel, Whimbrel and House Martins.

Male Little Egret in breeding plumage, the normally bright yellow feet turn orange for a while.
