The one 'garden' finch missing here in our garden is the Greenfinch, we've only had one in four years .
Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Siskin and recently Bullfinch but the Greens have disappeared.
The parasitic disease Trichomonosis has caused a rapid decline since 2006 but they are recovering now, great to so that you have so many @shiney .:dbgrtmb:

Not buzzing/flying a spider that's set up home in the greenhouse
If any one has a ID on both moth and spider it would ne nice to know.

          That moth is beautiful!

The spider....gives me the creepies!!!! But looks very blackwidow like...apparently there has been an increase of these similar type spiders in the uk (particularly hampshire area) like this that have a nasty bite too! Read it somewhere a couple of years ago but cant remember where.

Found it.... Warning as venomous false widow spiders invade British homes

@martin-f the Moth looks like a Water Carpet Moth, not to be mixed up with indoor (pest) carpet Moths and the spider is a Lace Spider, a close relative of the False Widow.

Not buzzing, not even flying ... but cheeping like a Dementor!
No photo (I'm not Superman, nor is my camera) but cheeping away in my office is a bird of some kind (most likely House Sparrow). I think it is stuck in the chimney area - I have no chimney stack here but most rooms still have chimney breasts and, being a Victorian house, we are less likely to have "cavity" walls.
It's a heart breaking sound and I don't know what to do; but it is definitely in my office area and very, very loud!

If you don't have a stack @"M" how on earth has it got there? If the fireplace is open try sprinkling some seed at the base where it can see it - it might entice it out.

                          Actually: yes!

No seed because, while I was getting ready for Shineyland much earlier today, (when I responded) I had my laundry basket in front of the "fireplace" (where I keep a faux log burner "electric" fire). Lo and behold, there was a tiny house sparrow! :hate-shocked: Not too sure who was more shocked! :heehee: I quickly grabbed a tea towel to put over it but it scurried under a dresser that had recently been delivered. Two thoughts: get Ozzy out of the room and get some water for it!

Could I entice it out? No chance! :th scifD36: The chirping continued, but, each time I entered the Office, it went as quiet as anything.

So, fast forward an hour or so later. Told Mr "M" the tale and asked if he would kindly locate it whilst I was out for the day, but under no circumstances to let Ozzy in the Office! :nonofinger: Also, gave him instructions that, should he find it, to place it outside in the border where it could be "hidden" by the mature Choisya. That way, at least giving it half a chance of survival!

This evening, returning from Shineyland, Mr "M" reported that he had found the Chirper - still by the faux log fire and, when he moved it, not one but FOUR baby house sparrows!!!! :thud:

Sadly, one had expired :frown: but that still left 3 to rescue. Which he did. He put them under the Choisya, as instructed.

They are no longer there - in any way, shape or form. Cats avoid our garden because of Ozzy and Oz would not bother them. I can *only* hope that their distress calls brought them hope, attention and, ultimately, survival. We did the best we could between us (I hope!)

The mystery remains how they even ended up where they did! No wonder they were so loud.

Thank you for asking @Sheal :blue thumb:

It's good to hear a happy ending @"M". :) These animals do get themselves into some fixes and then expect us to rescue them.

A tip for the future, if I may. If you have a bird loose in a room. Shut the door and open a window fully, then pull the curtains up to that open window. The bird if it has any sense will fly directly towards the light and disappear through the window. The same goes for anything on the wing. :)

Great advice, thank you! I shall do that in future; my only reservations in this particular instance is ... they were scramblers, not flyers.

Yet, I've no sooner typed that and thought ... nature is a wonderous thing!

Yup, door shut, windows open will be my way forward :dbgrtmb: Many thanks!

                                You're welcome. :)

The birds were obviously still very young, so it's understandable they needed a helping hand. :)
Let's hope there aren't any more.
