    Thanks Robert!
Light was really lousy so in order to get a fast shutter I had to go up to ISO 2500 which accounts for the 'grain'. Shooting at an angle through a double glazed window didn't help image quality either!

Brilliant, Dave! (sorry, haven't found the smilies on this new set-up yet)

Yes, that definitely was more fun than watching TV. Talk about being lucky and being there with the camera handy at just that moment, well done and thanks for sharing.

This fieldfare arrived today, we seldom see one in the garden and this one was difficult to capture as he was moving about rapidly all the time.
We also had a thrush today, again fairly rare in our garden and yesterday a redwing which for us was a first.

(Note the snow - we had another 6 inches over the previous 36 hours!)

Dave, your photos are fantastic :dbgrtmb: :love30:

I'm not very good with which birds are which but here are some I took over the last month or so.

I would guess that this may be from the sandpiper family as I saw it alongside the beach - somewhere between Rio and Sao Paulo.

These vultures were just a little way inland from there.

This had just caught a fish in the Amazon and seemed to be enjoying it.

And I don't know whether these are related to the Madonna with the big...... :heehee:

They were fishing for flying fish just off the coast of French Guiana. I watched one of them dive for a fish and miss it. The fish came flying out of the water and was skimming the surface and when the booby came back it started chasing it. The were diving in and out of the water but the fish got away. :dbgrtmb:

At one of the places we stayed at it was fun watching the birds come for the fruit and sugar water we put out.

I managed to catch a hummingbird with his tongue out - not very clear picture

I don't know what any of these are but they had breakfast with us each day.

Thanks for introducing us to all these lovely birds, shiney, and it must have been wonderful to have the last lot come for breakfast every day.

Pip, what is that bird? Could it be a blackbird with white head feathers? We used to have some with white tail feathers many years ago.

Fantastic pics Shiney, :dbgrtmb: more if you have them.
if you want some IDs they are, first a Southern Lapwing, second, Black Vultures.
Next, a Great White Egret and (possibly Blue Footed) Boobies. Apart from the Hummmers the others are, a Great Kiskadee Flycatcher, a 'don't know' :scratch:and a Swallow Tanager.:)

Thanks Kedi and strongy. More to come when I have the time. I don't know where to put some insects and spiders . I've already put some things on mammals etc (dolphins, monkeys ...)

I took these photos of butterflies when we were staying up in the mountains in Brazil (near where all the floods have been) but they wouldn't stay still long enough to get any really good ones.

This one was in French Guiana and looks a bit tatty to me.

This landed on Mrs shiney's hand when we were in a little village in the Amazon

and these photos were taken when we were traipsing in the Amazon Rain Forest (it's not a jungle :) )

Don't know what they are but decided not to touch them just in case.

I didn't know what thread to put these on so as they were taken in the Amazon I've put them here.

Our old friend the tarantula - which, contrary to popular belief, is not dangerous.

A couple of giant ants - about 2" long

and some leaf-cutter ants that are quite large but nothing like the giants. Sorry about the blurred picture.
