I didn't think that was a cicada as when I saw them years ago on Crete the children were playing with some like jumping beans in their little hands and they were more like black beetles......... perhaps it depends at what point in their life you see them at. Amazed me to see these little Greek children playing with them like pets.

Our garden is overun with blackbirds this year, as we they have two nests only about 5m apart and are producing mutiple broods.

A few minutes ago I was bending down as I was pouring some waste water into the gully outside our kitchen and had a fledgling blackbird sit on my shoulder! - I've only ever had chickens do that before.

And (apart from the male blackbirds who shout alarm calls when they almost fly into us) they all tolerate us coming within a few feet of them:

And this is all before the Robins' first brood in the nestbox start flying around!

We are seeing more youngsters in the garden now one Blackbird, two Dunnocks, five (yob) Starlings, one Robin and one Goldfinch, all with their parents but no young Siskins yet.

          Dear Mr Shiney,
thank you for recommending a squirrel proof seed feeder. It arrived today and I have transferred the sunflower hearts to it. It took a sparrow about 5 minutes to suss it out and the goldfinch quickly cottoned on and the squirrel is on the ground spitting teeth!!
I will take piccies if the rain holds off,

Such cheery pictures thank you everyone. The little birds are hanging on - like grim death - to the bars of the new squirrel proof feeder. Not many big birds about today. I hope they and their young can hang on until this stormy weather abates,

Not known for their agility on feeders this Blackbird would do anything to feed his three boys.

It's good to see you Woo. :dbgrtmb: The wings on your bee look as if they were added as an afterthought and not really attached to it's body, amazing! :)
