Did you see any Spoonbills in the channel the other side of the heath?
Oh yes Strongy, a dear lady let us view them thru' her monocular. Also watched a marsh harrier playing around on the far fence behind the channel. I heard the curlews which I love and we saw a family group of Buzzards in the pine forest to the right of the channel. Everyone looking for the 3 Osprey but we didn't see them. Took piccies of Wheatears but not that good. Had a lovely day there.

Two from last week in Greece.

      European Marsh Frog.
These amaze me, they exist in hiding for months in scorching temperatures with no rain and then after a heavy downpour appear all over the place.

      Hornets (I think?)
This was one of two nests we spotted. It was fascinating watching them come and go and the hornets(?) shown on the right of the nest sitting fanning the entrance with their wings. I'd have liked to have got a closer shot - BUT!

        Lovely sharp photos :dbgrtmb:

These are a bit blurred, snapped quickly at a distance.

Dave I think your Marsh frog is actually a beautiful specimen of a Green toad.

Woo, a great shot , don't see them around here.

Strongy, I think you are certainly correct. Our son (BSc in environmental stuff) who was with us reckoned it was a European Green Toad but we bowed to the verdict of a local who said 'frog'. Just goes to show - Beware of Greeks bearing opinions. :snork:
Action shot of son, either in prayer or photographing a toad!

While we are on spiders, not sure about Woo's one, here are a few Wasp spider ones (found one at last Jenny:blue thumb: ) and an Orb Web Spider.
