Lots of these little chaps out and about today. Hanging on like grim death in a rather cold and blustery wind - 6 Goldfinches with Robbie looking on. Having said that, he's sussed out how to grip a vertical bar and lean in and grab one. They are clever and quick to adapt I think,

As usual, all of you, you capture brilliant shots :dbgrtmb:

An amazing thing happened just half an hour ago. I went out in the garden to take a photo of a mushroom/toadstool  growing on our statue and I was then going to fill up the bird feeders.

I took down the smaller bird feeder and filled it up and, as I was just about to hook it onto its holder a greenfinch landed on my hand and then hopped onto the feeder. It didn't seem the least bit bothered by me.

I hooked the feeder back up and, as I had my camera dangling round my neck I very very slowly took the lens cover off and lifted the camera. I was standing just over a foot away from it and it occasionally looked at me. I quickly snapped loads of pictures and hoped some would come out OK. I wanted to zoom in even closer but the camera was set on automatic and said I was too close to focus.

After taking the shots I then lifted the big feeder down (which is above the other one), filled it up and put it back and the bird just continued to eat.

                I think it's a young one.

Here are some of the shots

In this shot you can see how delicate the feathers are and its tiny feet gripping the bar

Fantastic shots Shiney:blue thumb: they must have come from a very late brood, they would usually have more distinct colour by now.

Strongy, it was just one bird. The others (about 40 of them) were waiting on the willow tree. They make quite a racket whilst they're waiting :)

ARMANDII, I really did feel honoured and I was with him for about five minutes. I left and he carried on eating. I was thinking that he was either very bold, very clever and had worked out I'm a 'goodie' as I always fill up the feeder or a bit dim :heehee:
