Never bought ready meals, but it's fine sometimes.
Today it was sausage casserole with potatoes, cabbage, peas, sprouts, cauliflower and carrots.

          @john558 good for you!

Now I feel guilty. I had two muffins and two eggs for breakfast and had some vanilla ice cream for brunch. Followed by a sausage. And the scrapings from the pan after making pralines.

I've just barbecued some burgers and weiners. Because it is still well below freezing, I had to bring the barbecue cover inside to warm up a bit before I could wrestle it back on.

And I still have some egg noodle/cream sauce/turkey casserole left from the other day. So lots of "ready made" food in my fridge now. :)

Shop bought meals can be very good quality indeed nowadays. M&S do some great stuff and even a humble Tesco cottage pie hits the spot when needed. The recipes are created by professionals and the nutritional values meet recommendations so it's a win win. I think it's the generation shame of "shop bought" vs "home made" from the past years that is niggling the brain of many of us.

If I'm allowed to stay home alone on a day off work, my indulgent favourite solo lunch is a bag of crisps (Walker's Ready Salted) and a big glass of Pinot Grigio (Tesco own brand). Leaves me picking those pesky vitamins from between teeth for hours, but totally worth it

Home made chicken soup - the chicken was for the cat that lives down the road but spends all day in our garden, usually supervising my work.

Roast beef and all the trimmings (was doing meals on wheels yesterday).

Rhubarb and blackberry crumble, with home made custard, made with freshly picked rhubarb and home grown but frozen blackberries. On Thursday we won first prize in a horticultural show for our freshly picked rhubarb and Mrs Shiney won a load of other prizes. :blue thumb:

Looks a bit offish but smells delish, my homemade stew and just for my own taste buds some Dumplings that are home made too. :stirpot:

That's all that matters. My better half doesn't do chilli like I do so I have to split anything hot into two pans/pots at the point that I add the chillies.

                          They should be law!

                          :gaah:One of my pet hates!

Fridge/freezer clean up last night as I had some veal mince, shrooms and peppers to use up. So I got some 'past their best cherry toms from my man on Church St market (1.5 kilos for a quid!) and some habenero chillies and cooked it all up with some cummin and coriander powder, lots of garlic, onion (diced added early with some chunky bits added at the end), black treacle and kidney beans. Dished up on toasted ciabatta that was a bit stale. Just what was needed during this cold snap.

We have students here today and I'm the chef :rolleyespink:

As it's too much bother to cater for people's likes and dislikes it is vegetarian. I just need to check with them beforehand whether there is anything they can't eat (spices, garlic, onion etc.). There is rarely a problem but if someone has an allergy it's easy to do the basics first and then add the ingredient they can't have.

Stir fry veg done with onion, garlic and ginger with my home made stock to toss it in. Prep takes a long time but cooking is quick which is good as it needs to be ready dead on the dot of 12.30. Saffron basmati rice (actually using turmeric instead of saffron) flavoured with fried onion, cinnamon sticks, bay leaves (home grown), cloves, a touch of tom puree and veggie stock. Fresh chillies served on the side for any who like them.

Dessert is fresh fruit salad (mango, strawbs, melon, blueberries, grapes) and/or apple crumble. Greek yoghurt.

Don't get in my way when I'm working in the kitchen! :nonofinger: :loll:

I’ll bring a nice bottle of white, I’ll be there at 12.15 on the dot, just enough time to get the glasses filled up:)
