We are having fresh turkey fillets nuked and flaked in mushroom soup with chopped onion frozen peas, sweet corn and chopped peppers (seasoned with pepper and cumin) with rice. No starters or dessert. It is always enough for two meals. I call it Turkey Victoria (from my book Fowl Play in Victoria's Kitchen).

Sixteen, plus us, as Mrs S was running a 'Health At Your Fingertips' course :)

As they were mainly people I didn't know I tried to cater for a variety of tastes.

Pre-covid we used to host a cousins' reunion every year (some from abroad) and there were usually about forty of them with the oldest being 100 and he flew in from America. I was quite happy cooking for that gathering - dinner, afternoon tea and supper.

This particular year I did a variety of curries with some food for any that said, in advance, they didn't want curry - only two.

At the end of supper, Sarafi the cat came to help himself :rolleyespink:. I watched him carefully fold back the sheet of kitchen paper and finish off the smoked salmon. He loved smoked salmon :)

He lived four doors away but spent most of his time with us and a lot of GC members met him when they used to come to our Open Garden event.

              Thanks @pete

It's OK if you like curry :heehee:

It wasn't too difficult to do. The Lamb and chicken were cooked the day before and the veggies were cooked in the morning. The job that is a pain is cooking enough rice and keeping it hot. The other problem I had was running out of saucepans as the rice was too much for one pan. So I cheated. I got the local Indian to deliver the pilau rice - they owe me favours as I grow their chillies for them

P.S. I grind my own spices. :blue thumb:

Yesterday evening I made roast chicken thighs lightly flavoured with garlic salt and herbs, with crispy roasties and cauli. We then delivered some of it as Shiney's meals on wheels.

Today I'm also making for my meals on wheels an oxtail stew. The oxtail is frying off at the moment. When it's nice and brown I'll simmer it for a few hours, remove the bones and then it will be flavoured with friend onion, ginger and garlic, then cook into it carrots, turnip, celery, tinned toms, herbs, wine, a touch of Worcestershire sauce and add in some nice chunky potatoes and finish with some peas. A one dish meal for them - and me :)

Although I would never have those with baked beans like they show in the advert, just not right imo.

                              Multicultural Friday night meal

It all started with The Baby wanting to make Latki, grated potato pancakes in Jewish Hanukkah food style.

Whilst grating the tatties, I remembered Czech Bramboraki, which basically are grated potato pancakes with a silly amount of garlic- delicious! So in went the garlic.

When frying, it occurred to me that in essence, we are making potato Rösti. And when we started eating, The Baby asked what really is the difference between hash browns and all of the aforementioned?

Our latki-bramborak-rösti-hash browns were delicious :)

Not a great deal of difference but the coarseness of the grating of potato and onion with slightly more onion and also matzoh meal usually used instead of flour in Latkes. :blue thumb: All are delicious
