I was testing some gluten free pancakes on Monday, was wanting something close to American but they came out halfway between English and American. Still nice. Skipped them on pancake Day.

Last night I made a rather bad looking but very tasty almond and cherry gluten free loaf cake, topped with some chopped hazelnut.

Tonight I'll try buckwheat pancakes, I always have English style pancakes on shrove tuesday- although I consider it a whole week of pancake days rather than one day!

Has anyone tried buckwheat Scottish pancakes/drop scones? That's next on my list. IMG_20240214_075254.jpg IMG_20240214_075329.jpg

I made a sausage, onion, sage and thyme pie, a corned beef, onion and diced potato pie and a cherry jam tart with the left-over store-bought pastry. We'll have one of the pies tonight with peas perhaps.

Occasionally we have bought Fray Bentos pies and keep the tins for home-made pies.

I cooked home made chicken soup with home made dumplings.

As the soup was made with 4kg of chicken wings (nearly a gallon of soup) I have just used some of the meat from the wings and tossed them in a deep pan with a red pesto sauce and given them a quick stir fry. I've made up a load of mayonnaise mashed potatoes to go with the chicken and delivered them as Shiney's meals on wheels to four people locally.

Got a nicely marbled 450g sirloin steak from m&s reduced to £8. Currently in the oven at 95c until it hits medium rare then I will sear it and butter baste on the cast iron pan

Today it's roast beef with potatoes, cabbage, peas, broccoli, sprouts and gravy.
Made a bread and butter pudding, having ice cream, just right for this weather.
                    That's spices on the top

Had to look that up, but sounds yummy to me.

We are having Bifana de Portuguesa ... thin pork filets in a lightly spiced sauce, courtesy of the Deli Counter, Intermarche.

We are not desert people either but I will have some caramel ice cream J bought me after my tooth removal on Friday, but I had Yogurt instead.

I always make a pudding for Sundays and some left over for Monday. The bread is left over slices from the loaf that we buy on Saturdays. Don't always make a bread and butter pudding because of the calories but i felt like a change.
Usually i make a summer pudding instead.
