I didn't know you could start them that early. Note to self, next year start spuds in the greenhouse very early.

We've eaten the ones I planted in Pots - forgotten when though, probably late February. I planted 3 seed tubers in each "bag", and got a little over 1kg crop (per bag / from 3 tubers). I think outdoor yield for first earlies would be nearer 1.5kg (from 3 tubers)?

I put them in the boiler room until they were "above ground" (earthed them up as they appeared, so bag was "full" of compost by the time it moved from boiler-room to conservatory). You need bags (3 seed tubers) or big pots (I get 4 seed tubers in them). We like to eat new potatoes fresh so I prefer more-smaller-bags, so that Ic an tip a bag out for a meal, rather than having lots that we then use up over a week or so; although if they turn out to be too flowery we do then store them for 24 hours, or so, before cooking

Put 4 canes in the bag when you plant, so that you can run a couple of strings around them to "corral" them and stop the foliage flopping over.

Not actually in the UK. Located in the San Francisco Bay Area on the west coast of the US. They are Chieftan red skinned taters from "Irish Eyes Seeds"

The seed page says they're supposed to make violet blossoms, but they definitely never flowered. I pulled up a couple of the really close to dead vines and was pleasantly surprised to find a fair amount decently sized (and freakin delicious) taters. Think I should cut the tops off and let the rest finish off or ride it out and see if they flower eventually?

It also says they're a mid season tater. I'm looking at my log and I planted them at the end of march and added more soil until about the middle of april.

They don't always flower, depends on the variety and seasonal weather.
