Looks like Mrs Bradshaw to me. I have about 20. I like the way the plant fools you into thinking it's going to be yellow and then is red! Right time for flowering too. Being north of you I'm a little later, mine are just about to flower in the next couple of days.

Lots of stuff are flowering atm. I have tried over the years to have mostly late flowering Rhododendrons and Azaleas to avoid the flowers getting frosted if they flower early. This year it's been so hot and dry over the last 3 weeks many of them have been scorched by the sun and wilted in the heat. This gardening malarkey ain't easy:). The ones below are still hanging in there. My photo of my lovely double poppies isn't a patch on Woo's I'm afraid.

What are those big purple jobs @Zigs? A friend and I went to visit Culzean castle last week (stunning and wonderful gardens). The big purple things were in an herbaceous border near the castle but couldn't find a label to say what they were.

Thank you @Linz. I am now at the stage where I actually prefer deciduous Azaleas to Rhododendrons. They are easier to grow, many are very scented and often they have vivid coloured foliage in the Autumn.
To answer you query, photo 1 is of an unnamed Occidentale Azalea bought from Rhododendron and Azalea specialists about 30 years ago. Many of the Occidentale are very similar, smell great and colour well in the Autumn Maybe have a look at www.glendoick.com They do mail order, not cheap but a wonderful range of both Rhododendron and Azaleas, especially species Rhododendron if you have the climate/habitat for them. Photo 5 is Azalea Persil. Mine is a bit more orangey than some, maybe my soil? it has a slight scent, has nice dark foliage and flowers extremely well every year without fail. I wish all shrubs were so easy.

Your welcome, they're absolutely gorgeous! I had trouble with a rhode before which was in the front garden and since then I have realised I much prefer Azaleas to look at so have since bought a small white/lilac one and put it a pot to see how it fares. Thank you for the name and website, the gardens look gorgeous. Will have fun browsing these thank you :)

Thanks @Zigs:) as I thought bit on the tender side for where I live. Where I saw them at Culzean is right on the coast so doubt they'll have much bother with frosts/below zero temperatures
