A week or two ahead of mine (which are outdoors) :blue thumb:

To be honest there are more floriferous and hardier species (I.austris survived in the ground here and @pete has a very large one in his garden) but it's a good red, it will get better year on year and I like the challenge of the more exotic ones.

This is the earliest it's ever been. Usually mid Sept. reckon it's all the sun and heat that's made it feel like it's gone home.

Do you think that there is enough of the season left for it to build up enough strength to face another winter?

I am unsure what to do, it has got too big to move. I will use a lot more insulation and hope for the best.

It probably hasn't enjoyed the heat and dry this year either @JWK .
Personally, although I like to grow a lot of stuff that is pretty unsuitable for my climate I just dont see tree ferns as worth a go.
The price puts me off for a start.

I can see you have been watering it like crazy this year John by the moss on the stem.

Yes pete, hot dry is the opposite to what it needs. I saw a few Tree Ferns at Wisley in a similar state to mine last weekend, just a few weak fronds poking out and one or two completely dead.

It was my costliest purchase hence I have been watering it even though it looked dead. I have a drip feed set up and it's been soaked even through the dry spell. It used to be under a canopy of trees which gave it good shade but I chopped them down a few years back and it has struggled ever since.

They have been available for a good few years now, shipped over from Tasmania I believe.
But of lots that were planted around here, initially, I see very few now.

It just suggests that something is not right, its too cold in the winter and too dry in the summer.
Basically a woodland plant, I believe, you had it right.

Nice plant when well grown though.

Where there`s life there`s hope. I wish my fern had a tiny frond on it - I wrapped it up well for the winter and left in in the shade since - it was £25 - so not an arm and leg like a big one would be. Try talking to it - or maybe move it to a shadier place?
My son and family are in Tasmania and they grow like weeds there. Those rain forests are amazing. :)
