Oleander is one of the most dangerous to pets and quite often life threatening.

Puppies in particular are known to be affected because they tend to chew at anything.

Although just as poisonous to cats it has been found that cats tend to ignore the plant so there are rare cases of poisoning.

Horses should not be kept near where they have a possibility of accessing the plant.

fortunately it doesn't grow wild in this country but people with young pets (or young children) would be best not to grow the plant.

Oleanders are grown throughout the world and are particularly common in gardens in the Med they don't seem to have a problem with them there, my brother has a hedge of them in Crete and has two grandsons and cats out there.
People just need to be aware, there are many other poisonous plants that we grow in our gardens.

I think we all know where we stand regarding poisonous plants, personally I'd never grow a foxglove,:biggrin::biggrin: too risky.

But this is doing well this year, yep, another desert plant, Chilopsis linearis.

Sorry but you are going to have to endure a few more pics of the BOP.

How is the Albizia doing @pete? They were flogging 1ft high seedlings at the Hampton Court flower show with a couple of flowering 'trees' to boost sales! No chance of them flowering here, not warm or sunny enough, that goes for Caesalpinia too.
I did see a couple of Koelreuterias in full flower, something else not seen around here.

Did you see the pic of Albizia Kalkora, if not, this is another shot.
                      A. julibrissin has lots of buds but yet to open any, one of the best I have is one I got from you as the chocolate version, soon lost it's colouring, but is now a 10ft high tree.

I've never seen A kalkora flower. My A. Summer Chocolate turned green the following year, I still have it but it is tiny struggling in dry sand!

It always seems happiest after a fairly hard winter although it was looking rather sad back in April and I was half expecting the long slow death that the Agave family seem to specialise in.

Not sure if it's exotic enough... but my pomegranate bush in the garden Punica2Sm.jpg is flowering better than ever before.
And it even appears to have set some fruit PunicafruitSm.jpg
