I'm gonna get those pictures, my house was disappearing under Strelitzia, bougie, ginger, and a massive campsis, I had to sort it all out it was too much.

It sure looked beautiful though. At one time you could only get the purple Bougie here, now you can't find it!

            July 17.
You can see the long new growths of the season and it was taking over the Strelitzia by September.

What do you protect the protea and strelitzia with Pete? Just a mulch?

A bit more elaborate I'm afraid, you have to preserve the top growth of both so a mulch wouldn't do the job.
My makeshift sectional building. Open fronted and half roofed.
Just gets the blankets on nights below zero.

I left the large Strelitzia out and the small one in the greenhouse.
This is today, another two nights of -6 might kill it off.
The variegated Oleander seems unaffected so far.

That's most interesting, Pete! :blue thumb: My Strelitzia in the kitchen is in no danger of being affected by the low temps of late! It's now 3-4 years old & getting a bit big for the position in the kitchen.
