Bit of wallet gardening here, but I love it. I bought this Ornithogalum dubium from a local florists yesterday for three quid......................

It was a total impulse purchase, but three bulbs and numerous stems meant that I parted with the cash.

I bought one at B&Q in May, had two flower stems, scented and great for the window sill. Now died down,
Do you know if it is hardy?

Another Callistemon, (Keith, I think the Old Walled Garden nursery has the National collection).
Not sure of this one, it has a strange colour and lax habit with slightly curved leaves, not upright or weeping, just untidily spreading!
Salmon pink with very bright anthers but from a distance it almost looks brown!!

As in O.dubium? If so, not a hope in hell of it being hardy!
It has a reputation (I've been reading up on it after I bought it) for being a bit difficult to break its dormant period. I'm quite tempted to try and grow it evergreen. I grow my Albuca bracteata and A.nelsonii this way and it works well.

LongK - O. dubium - is that a chincheree? - or is that name only for a white variety.

I remember many, many years ago an aunt from South Africa sent my parents some white chincherees as cut flowers - they lasted for ages. I have always remembered the name - but never heard mention of them since, until your photo prompted me to Google the name.

I think that "Chincherinchee" applies specifically to O.thyrsoides, but is used in one form or another for many of the Ornithogalum.

Hope you don't mind me posting this one here but it is quite an achievement for me. Back in March I was in Nepal. This is by Lake Fewa, Pokhara near Kathmandu.A lovely bar/ restauarant with nice gardens. In this shot, down in the r/h corner there was a healthy group of Impatiens ( Busy Lizzies) flowering their socks off. I saw seed pods and managed to snaffle a couple back home.
            P1040313.JPG
Sowed them in April and got 4. 3 are outside in the front windowbox but the biggest I kept indoors. And here it is, flowering at last - all the way from Nepal.

Well, reasonably "Exotic" enough I think,
            Jenny
ps I have seed if anyone wants some
