That's interesting, I'd be trying more cuttings if I was you.
I assume originally the plant was the trailing type?

Love that @ViewAhead ! It looks good up the tap too. Grow more cuttings, see if you can get a vine in a couple of years!
Seriously though, you will take some more won't you? I'd love to see what happens with the next ones.

@pitter-patter I'd divide the rhododendron in October, rhododendron don't like growing up agaist other plants to much so they probably be lob sided, tie some weights / tie it down to try and get the open round shape.

I'll see how it manages through the summer. Might try cuttings in water, as I accidentally got roots on some lobelia in a little vase one yr.

Ahh, possibly. Maybe suppliers do lots of nipping out of shoots to create bushy specimens that stay small. I just let it romp away. It seemed a shame to thwart all the effort it was putting in.

I'm just looking at the picture and it looks like normal trailing lobelia leaf lower down, but something strange has occurred as the growth higher up looks different.

Some of the leaves are much larger than these were on last yr's plant, and bronzed on the back. 'tis a mystery. Maybe I have invented a new strain!
