My son gave me a few bulbs some years ago but, until this week, they had only bloomed once before & then the few flowers that opened hardly made it out of the neck of the bulbs! So I looked on line for some advice & found that if I treat them like my Amaryllis i.e., keep them dry & cold for a couple of months, than they will flower every year. That's what I did & this is the result!

Hardly anything in flower in the garden, a few Snowdrops, one Crocus, one Hellebore and the Daphne odora.

On Monday when I returned home after taking our granddaughter to school I stopped to have a look at the pots that sit in rings on the top of the balcony railings. I had to pull out a few Pansies that were dying or dead then I noticed a splash of yellow! I had to look at the pots again to find where it had come from. Then I noticed that in one pot the very first of the crocuses had begun to flower! A couple of days earlier I hadn't even seen the buds & yet here were two flowers from the same little corm flowering! :)

Crocuses just opened on balcony 6th February 2023 001.jpg

@Balc, open yellow crocuses are awe-inspiringly beautiful. I noticed the first one a couple of days ago, unexpectedly from the depths of winter and it lifted my spirits. It appeared suddenly just when I thought all my crocuses would take forever to flower.

@groundbeetle I understand perfectly because I was feeling the same way! I had a closer look at all the pots with Crocuses in them but none are showing any buds as yet.

Outdoors, a Viburnum I stole from the very first house we rented when coming to UK. Thanks, Shaun :)
