Presume (wrongly!?) this isn't your garden @JWK , maybe Wisley?. I have tried both Crown and Snake's head with little success. What really "rubbed salt into the wound" was while visiting my best friend who has zero interest in gardening, She has a big farm and the area is called Bogbank, does that give you a clue as to the type of ground around:).She doesn't really have a garden as such but there is an area near the house she attempts to grow the odd thing. To my complete and utter amazement in marshy bog right next door to a stream and in deep deep shade were growing very happily loads and loads of Snake's Head's :rolleyespink:. Maybe it was too wet for slugs and they'd have drowned trying to get to them.I would have thought the only plants to survive these conditions would be aquatics. The Snake's Heads were doing a very good interpretation of being in that group!

Thanks for the compliment @silu - it is my grand sounding 'Spring' garden:

        WP_20180418_16_08_00_Pro.jpg

So far my Fritillaria are going good, it's been 3 years since I planted them. I had read they like moisture retaining soil and I have the opposite. Mine is thin chalky stuff that dries out at the first sign of the sun. But they seem to thrive, I have a few elsewhere in the garden that are slowly multiplying. Strange how they tolerate such extremes - your friend's boggy soil and my dry alkaline soil.

:yay: Hey I remember you posting photos of your Spring garden project a couple of years back, it's come on a treat.I do like the teardrop shaped bed and path. Great minds think alike or possibly the alternative:snorky:....... I created a teardrop shaped flowerbed and path made out of river stones at my last house. The new owners wrecked my garden:cry3:but did at least have the decency to keep the flowerbed and path. Note to self, never go back and see what has happened to ones old gardens.

Wisteria hybrid, only in it's third year, 60+buds and although not as spectacular as the original sinensis it still makes a decent show. I'll post again when in full flower.

Perfect for Snakesheads! Their natural habitat is river meadows - we have a famous one a couple of miles from here.

More cheaty, cheaty Frits from me - Fritillaria persica...............

Grown in a pot overwintered in the greenhouse they had to be evicted a couple of weeks ago due to the space they were taking up.............

I'll split the pot up later in the year and put three or four in the ground. They did ok at my last house but I forgot them when I moved. A kind member on another forum sent me seven or eight bulbs last autumn so I'm back in business now :blue thumb:

Just sharing a few piccies from my trip to Ypres this week. As normal, the cemeteries are kept beautifully. The wisteria at ypres reservoir cemetery is fantastic to say the least. It's given me inspiration of what to do in an area of my garden. I also collected a bit of earth from the field where one of my uncles is believed to have died. Will be nice to take a bit of him home with me.
