After a tense few days of 'Did the frost get them or not?' the Wisterias seem to have escaped :hapydancsmil: 20220419_083640.jpg 20220419_094124.jpg
The Clematis are all budding up nicely, too. 20220419_094524.jpg

Apple blossom, the cold weather hasn't got to it this year so should have a lot of cookers.

                  Exochordas are now filling out
                  P1540205.JPG

The giant Ajugas are coming on well but these photos don't show the glossy purple leaves very well
                  P1540199.JPG

The leaves of the Salvia turkestanica just showing in the foreground and will eventually be tall and showy in the summer
                  P1540200.JPG

                  Poppies are just starting
                  P1540201.JPG

Erysimum 'Chelsea jacket' - the bees love it
                  P1540206.JPG

One of our many Heucheras is just brightening up (Mrs Shiney won a dozen different ones at a very big plant show where the competition was to try and identify 20 young plants. She identified all of them and was told that nobody had ever done that before. :heehee:
                  P1540208.JPG

                  P1540207.JPG

These giant Sempervivums seem to love the bed they are in. They spread like mad and we keep splitting up the clumps and transplanting them (and selling them).
                  P1540210.JPG

They now have spread through a 40ft border and keep spreading further. The red ants seem to love them as they are always nesting under them and completely cover them in very fine soil which we hose away every so often.
                  P1540211.JPG

The Honesty (Lunaria) also spread like a weed through the garden but looks good once it has got going. This is the common one that we tend to leave unless it gets in the way. We have a lovely variegated white one (I hope it's still alive) and shall look for it. It normally flowers later than the purple one and doesn't spread very easily.

Thank you Upsy. The problem is the flowers are short lived and drop and make a mess ... but they make up for it by their beauty and heady scent late afternoon/evening.

I love that little plant Logan. I have had it for maybe 15 years. I have just gone back and looked it up and it is called Drosanthemum floribundum (Ice Plant). The flowers glow in the sun.

I was surprised to discover a Honeysuckle done from seed was climbing the trellis and my little Abutilon I standardised is doing well ...

I have a rose that's just started to flower on the balcony railings!I call it "Chinese rose" not because it is necessary Chinese but because it came from some seeds a brother of mine bought from China gave me some years ago. We both sowed a few at the same time but this was the only seed to germinate.

It took 3 or 4 years before flowering for the first time & now it's always the first rose of the year to flower!
