Once had a delightful sisyrinchium.....small gem called May Snow. Have never been able to get it since. Pure white flowers, just a few inches high, non seeding. Used to divide and sell it but then lost it. It grew best in a peaty acid soil. Any ideas longk? :)

Interesting soil preference as to keep them going here I have to grow the dwarf species in nigh on a succulent mix! This one was in the "cheaper than chips and take a chance" section of a local nursery last autumn. Repotted in my mix and it survived the winter.

Anyway, I reckon that specialist alpine nurseries would be the best bet for replacing it. @kindredspirit should be able to point you towards a good source I reckon.

Verdun, now that Chris Pattison has retired, I find the best alpine plant nursery is The Alpine Centre in Calver, Derbyshire. He's not on e-mail, not on the phone but you can write to him, although he doesn't have a list. You have to call really. He has a STUNNING garden, all rocks in it moved by hand. Open Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon only. Closed Jan, Feb.

I've bought from Rob Potterton in Lincs. Bought from Susan Tindall in N.I. Bought from Tim Lever in Aberconwy, Wales. I'm going to try Slack Top on top of the Pennines in September.

There's loads of Alpine nurseries if you go looking.
                          Ones I haven't tried,
                          D'Arcy & Everest, Cambs

                          Parham, Devizes
Bond in Hartpury. (Went to him but no-one was there. :( )
                          Hartside, Cumbria
Edrom in Berwick. (When I have time, I'm going to try this one.)
