WHAT'S LOOKING GOOD IN AUGUST 2018

It wasn't designed this way but I have decided I like this arrangement. Maybe it's something I can look into properly. The begonias either side weren't nurtured properly and as a result didn't grow to their full potential. If they had they would have swamped the little fella in the middle and possibly not looked as good. Maybe if I found something smaller with good foliage and minimal flowers, I could recreate the effect I am looking for.

Really pleased with this this year, got three spikes all with four flowers.

I have a gnome here that's grown on me over the years....sentimental at first now part of the garden

One of the later flowering heleniums, Fata Morgana, now opening out. Soon to be smothered in blooms

Sunpatiens ...just 2 plants....in trough made by yours truly.....in flower since June

 

Passion Fruit

 

Leuchtenbergia principis.

 

The sweet peppers are really ripening this month and we have so many we are giving them away. Also, we have been roasting them to marinate with garlic and basil but I am eating them as fast as I take them off the grill. Indescribable!

However Passiflora caerulea (blue Passion flower) fruit looks like this



Although the fruit is edible, its rather insipid when eaten raw. A tea can be made of the flower which is said to alleviate stress and anxiety

 

I probably would not recommend that.
