@Perki what is canna virus? This is my first time growing from a piece off root? I ordered this year.

There were two in the package and the other never emerged.

@JWK your Cobaea is looking good :blue thumb:.

None of ours are showing any flower buds yet and we have them all around the garden. They're growing well but nothing to show. This is the bunch outside my office window. It's happily running along the catenary cable. There is new edging all along the greenhouse to stop the roof panes sliding out :rolleyespink:. The old edging had rotted after almost 50 years and one pane came out in the high winds. We're doing the other side today :blue thumb:

We don't have a lot of colour in the dry months but I have a lot of green ... looking from the front doors after a windy night to the patio over the underground cisterna (holds 19,000 litres) which is now unused since we went on mains c2004.

@Perki looked up the canna virus and my plant doesn't have that. It was poor lighting and an inept photographer. Thank you for the heads up though as I did not know about that!

It is a phaison named Canna Tropicana. Mine has not got the brilliant colours they show in the advertisements. I'm hoping it change as it matures!

I do grow this variety and from my own experience but for the 1st or 2nd leaf they are all true to form. I do still believe it has canna virus, have you got anymore pictures of the newest leaf its a bit dark .

here is picture of mine , the variegation isn't as good this year with growing in the shade but you can see it looks a lot different.

I'll try to get a better picture tomorrow. It is now in half sun - and I think I'll try to use my camera. It is supposed to be a camera "for dummies" but obviously I need one for "absolutely nothing upstairs at all" ...

I used to grow "Durban" and "Pretoria" back in the late 90s and they were pretty spectacular.

I'm not sure what has happened to them but they dont seem the same now, even the good un virused ones dont seem to have the same look.
Might be just me, but there was no talk of virus in those days.
Mine did eventually end up virused and I destroyed all the Cannas I had at the time.

They were always the hardest to determine if they had the virus.

Agree, I had Pretoria and Durban in the past and could look like they had canna virus but mine didn't. Cleo did and was binned. I only have Tropicanna black and a rescued small red one now both virus free.
