Always the first fruit in bloom, but it's really bloomin' early this year.

Peach tree in its pot in the GH.

We tend to get too much fruit setting and if not thinned the peaches turn mouldy. Last year I did a radical thinning and just left a dozen peaches to mature of which about eight were perfect.

The pot usually gets moved from the GH or polytunnel onto the patio in late April.

Looking forward to the pic LoL.

Aha! So that answers that one!! It was Dave's pic you were working on! Was it that one I particularly admired too, LoL? The scene over the loch in the evening?

Anyway, back to the peaches..... glad you get some good ones. How are they dealt with when they grow out in the open, do you know? I presume they will still produce flowers so close together, so they'll still be prone to passing on disease if you don't thin them out.....

I've really no idea about peaches in the open, but I suspect that given their early blossoming they would need some frost protection. Though given our recent mild winters it might be possible to grow one outside up here in a sheltered corner. I'd guess that outdoors you should treat them the same as far as regards thinning though further south in a drier climate it might not be so important.

I was really meaning in a place where they would naturally grow outside, rather than here, I have to admit.

Lovely to be able to grow them here at all! :D A bit like bananas!
