What's Looking Good In February 2022

Only a few from me from the beginning of the month . The new witch hazel is flowering Jelena , it is a bit more orange now compared to the picture , not sure if I should of gone with arnolds promise instead . And my first snowdrops of the year.

 

A bit of a cheat... hardenbergia first ever flower from seed in my greenhouse. @pete it does look a bit like that plant we were trying to identify for @Jenny namaste

It proves so hard to get a decent Hellebore pic without having a hand in the way . I played around using a mirror on one of them the other day....too much of a faff going round and doing them all though..

 

They would be good plants for hanging baskets.

 

Any one for Kumquats, bought this plant last year in Morrisons.
They are still only just ripening, they are sharp tasting but not sure about eating the skins.

 

Never had a rose flower this early ever before! Had a good look round and yes, found another, different variety, Gertrude Jekyll.
The only time I've been to Chelsea I was able to sit down after lunch with David Austin. Asked how good Paul's Himalayan Musk was (not one of his!) Told me to get one but that some of his were good at growing to 10' if pruned carefully. Mentioned Gertrude Jekyll as being sound, so I bought one and she's been fantastic (bought more!) but one was planted under a clematis over a rose arbour some years ago. It grew right up through the Montana and has flowered right up in the air for some years, un pruned. That's the second rose to flower NOW!

@ CarolineL.....remember this? It's been tantalising me for 3 months with flower buds, but this week could see it burst forth

 

@noisette47 I presume you are too far North for it to be invasive as it is around the Med.
It's too tender for me unless kept in the greenhouse in Winter.

 

Hi @noisette47 very jealous of a climate that allows clementines! But my acacia boormannii (which I think that one is?) flowered last year in the greenhouse, and is now showing similar sized buds despite having been turfed out into a wet Welsh garden in the autumn!

 

So are the Clementines preserved in Brandy?

 

There are examples of A. dealbata in sheltered town gardens nearby that are verging on thuggishness, but we've not had a really bad winter since 2011. It's more a gamble as to whether the flowers get frosted. I'm trying A. retinoides again in the garden, but playing safe with A. cincinnata in a big pot for now

 

It's a cheat, really, Caroline Half-barrels on wheels that get shoved under the roof on a (sometimes) sunny terrace. All the citrus seem to thrive like that
