Lovely Simbad. Think it may be Capanula trachelium (Nettled leaved Bellflower) apparently grows wild in Ireland. It's a toughie - or a thug, but I like some thug too. It's taking over in my little patch !

Mine too Jenny - it's even growing up and between the ivy and viburnum - I love it as it covers any bare patches.

Ditto Jenny and GA. I've got the blue and white versions. Ok they are a bit of a thug and discovered the other day that their roots can get through garden membrane!!!! but to be honest I don't loose sleep over them being in places they maybe shouldn't!

The climbing white rose on my arch has produced what can only be described as a natural bouquet with all the flowers on one stem opening at the same time :)

Sorry, only just got back on to this thread. Both colours are lychnis coronaria - white is 'alba' (surprise, surprise) and the red is 'atrosanguinea'.

I knew what the names were supposed to be but had to check something with Mrs Shiney. She agrees that we can't be sure because we didn't plant them!!! We have both those plants 300ft from them and we can only assume that the birds kindly transplanted the seeds - and mixed them together. :heehee: Of course, they could just as easily be something else and been brought in from a neighbour's garden.

Shiney, your Hebe's look amazing! :) Grannie Annie is right, white flowering plants often get overlooked when buying for the garden and that occurred to me earlier this year, so I've started to introduce them. I haven't had roses in my garden for twenty years and late last year I planted nine. This one below is the whitest rose I've ever seen and is probably 'flower of the year' in my garden.

                          'Iceberg'
