        AHA!!!! So that is what it is called: you've ID'd one of my plants without realising it, Joolz :ThankYou:

        A friend recently gave me a lump of something she called "Thithles" (yes, that's what she called it: Thithles :rolleyespink: I *assumed* they would be globe thistles :dunno:

        Noticed the other day it had a couple of flat, mauve looking things on it and realised that it most certainly was not a GT!

        Then you posted your lovely specimen :blue thumb:

        Now I am wiser :)

          Hi Spruce - I just love this tree - the flowers are so beautiful and the size of the leaves are amazing and yes I do believe that the tree does deter gnats.

              Hi Mum, it's full name is Acanthus spinosus :blue thumb:. One of the 'Bear's breeches' varieties. :)

                First blooms on my Nicotiana glauca. Stands about 2.5metres tall at the moment so not the best photo........................

                It will form a nice large shrub/small tree in time.

                Aloe striatula is hardy, having been outdoors in a placcy pot all winter. I planted it out properly in the spring and here it is in bloom.......................

                Eucomis bicolor. This was a bulblet that I found growing in the crown of a spent flower stem in autumn 2011.....................

                  "Tree lilies" have made a start :)

                  I think this is the Oriental Trumpet Lily "Mantissa" - or some name similar to that.

                    The first and only time that I've seen it! It was only spotted as I had put the spent stem in the compost and was turning it over.

                    I suppose as they form bulbils on leaf cuttings its probably just a variation on that metabolic pathway. Reminds me: I ought to take some Eucomis leaf cuttings ...

                        This is my Trellis Entrance to the garden covered in a mixture of Clematis and annual and perennial Sweetpeas. It's lovely walking through it as you get the scents of the Sweetpeas and also stroked by the foliage:heehee:
