This is a bit puzzling.

Here is our Malva moschata alba last year. As you can see, it's the requisite white colour


This year it has come up pink!!!


There was, originally, a largish clump of alba and nothing else. Now we have a smaller clump of alb and a larger one of pink - in the same spot. As I'm pretty certain that they can't change colour I can only assume that the white has died back a bit and the pink must be seed from last year that has reverted.

Can Malva of one colour set seed of another colour?

 

I've tried, and failed, to grow them in my garden, Sheal, or at least not got them beyond the second year. I did a bit of research and found out they are a short lived perennial [always a bad sign] that is really happy in moist woodland. I've tried them down by the pond where's there's shade and it's moist but never got them past the second year......which is why, I guess, they describe them as a "short lived perennial"

 

That doesn't sound like you, Sheal!! If you don't try you won't know will you?? I have the same problem with Coreopsis [which I love] but some varieties of them are described as short lived perennials again. I have never got them past their second year either, but it doesn't stop me from trying
