@CarolineL There are 7 palms in there! it looks overcrowded in summer. All are hardy so are permanent, 1 Trachycarpus, 4 Chamaerops humilis (including 2 small C h cerifera), 1 almost dead and invisible Washingtonia and the middle a Butia capitata.

@"M" Probably more NW. but even now it doesn't get the sun till gone 11am.
Had I planted them in the south facing bed they would no doubt be a lot bigger but at the time that was taken up by a Pear tree.

@HsuH Your garden is looking very pretty and cottagy. I do like the carved tree stump with faces and an owl (@wiseowl maybe visiting?) perched on top. Did you carve it?

@Victoria, it's hardy through most of the UK, usually unaffected by temperatures down to -8c. Like the large flowered ones you grow outside, Hibiscus sinensis, the flowers only last a day (or two).

:doh:I am really losing it ... of course I know it, H syriacus. I should have looked at the leaves. I had several pink ones in Alabama, gutter height we called Rose of Sharon. Think Sis had them as well, also pink. Come to think of it, our Lidl here has one side of the car park lined with pink ones. They are deciduous here as I think they were in Alabama, maybe it is the heat! Guess the blue is less common ... but nevertheless gorgeous.

Thank you Victoria. The carving was the work of my OH. Initially he did it for the village's sensory garden but I hijacked it for our own:). He then carved the following piece for the village.

This Habiscus was taken from a cutting from Crete last year.
It has flowered much to my surprise.
It was taken from a dark red mother plant..........

Corkers, the pair of them! A great photo too if I may say so?
Congratulations on your Hibiscus success too; you must be thrilled to bits!

                              Massive glads.. 20170720_193900.jpg

                              And massive hydrangeas...
                              20170720_193825.jpg

Actually these fliwers were on a bush which I want to cut but that part got massive healthy flowers so I especially bought new big containers filled with flower food (home made) and then placed them outside again as the house has no place for such huge arrangements:)
