@Gail_68 , could be the Ponytail Plant. I have one Beaucarnea Recurvata which has green leaves and three B Guatemalensis which has red tipped leaves. They can be quite expensive and slow growing, but gorgeous.

@longk, I saw a Salvia guaranitica var.violacea here years ago on the side of a building that had a tree trunk and went over the roof ... stunning!

Not really a guessing game Gail....you said purplish flowers so an educated guess. But, you are right, best wait for the picture; better still get the name of the plant when hubby is there again:)

Yup, mine are a metre and a half plus from seed! Loves moisture though which ain't so great this summer.

I'm not so sure that is Salvia guaranitica var.violacea - wrong colour and it is one of the more diminutive Salvia guaranitica. It sounds more like S.concolor to me judging by the size.

IMG_4470.JPG Lovely plant though longk :)
I divide mine every couple of years or so :)
This is Ruffled Swan. Taller than Wild Swan and develops semi and fully double flowers soon
Got Elfin Swan too just opening out. A dwarfer form that I will take a picture of in a day or so. Charming variety

Gail said purple flowers though. Cyperus alternifolius makes large plants down here that survive the winter. :)

Just a couple of Lilies for today.....

Those are normal size Pansys . I've never seen Lilies this big before, they're just over 12" wide.

Unfortunately I can't get anymore as they were in an un-named bag of 12 ( for £2 ) mixed Oriental Lilies from The Range last year. I think I'll be getting some more next year just in case :)

IMG_4512.JPG Crinum Powellii ...first flowers this year and hoping for a lot more....one of a few clumps here. Alba yet to flower but hoping. Not sure they would have survived the Beast from the East but, hey ho! They did
