Are salvias a plant favoured by men?
I have a few but they would not be on my list of "must have" plants in the garden.

I grow quite a few salvias here Logan and they do seem to vary in their attractiveness to slugs etc.

Patens varieties, Waverley, and ironically, the hardy carradonna, etc seem to be vulnerable but only in early spring ......I pick off the odd fat slug then and thereafter they are fine.... but I have never seen a slug or snail on Uliginosa, Cacalifolia, Amistad, Love n Wishes, Embers Wishes,,leucanthemum or the microphyllla types. Even the giant patens Guanajuato is slug free.

Shame not to grow salvias Logan:). Try uliginosa.....it is easy, flowers for a very long time (blue flowers with white bunny tails) and is usually self supporting to well over 7'. It is also a bee magnet:)

Salvias favoured by men??:noidea: Not sure about that except Hot Lips seems to be hugely popular with women but for me it is awful:sad:

It's not quite there yet but my kniphofia mango popsicle has finally produced it's flower stalks.

You will get plenty of spikes now.
In my picture above, the kniphofia is Hot Papya......same series as Mango :)

Try the ash method @Logan I mentioned you may be pleasantly surprised, if not a cure it will reduce the numbers

Gary you won’t be disappointed, just keep deadheading the spires when the flowers fade. Mango popsicle is my favourite. I grow it with oestfriesland salvias.

Talking of Salvias, I do have to protect Black and Blue/Bloom from slugs in Spring. Worth it for sure, survived the beast from the east with a little fleece. Patens reins supreme for me though, the colour and disease resistance is great.

Your gardens are all looking so lovely. I'll try and take some pics soon, looking good at the moment are my verbena bonariensis (I'm so pleased with these as I sowed them quite late but they've grown quickly and have been loving the sunshine, they're also attracting bees and butterflies a plenty!)

Also loving my mixture of scabiosa and Erysimum and the fact that most of our roses are about ready to repeat flower with lots of new buds.

This recent rainfall has done wonders for the grass which is greening back up nicely too.

A few little projects in the pipeline too to keep us busy. Happy days :)
