I'm still not able to get around the garden much  so my time out there is limited to harvesting. I picked 6lb of runner beans, 7lb of plums and 7 courgettes - and took a few photos.

Some of the flowers around the veg plot.

The bean plants are growing well and it must be that I'm playing the right CD's :heehee:

These bicoloured plants (Tenderstar) are attractive, flowered and produced beans before the other varieties but are now being overtaken by the others. Good flavour and smooth texture and are a cross between a runner and a French. We're trialing them for Which? Gardening. Is anyone else doing the trials?
    P1490185.JPG

Polestar (just a runner) are now starting to catch up on production with each bean growing longer than Tenderstar
    P1490186.JPG

Firestorm (another runner and French cross) seem to have more of the characteristics of a runner than Tenderstar.

It's too early in the season to tell about the comparative stringyness - or not - but they all seem successful. Even if Tenderstar turn out not to be quite so productive I may still grow them for the pretty effect of the flowers. I have enough room to do so.

We're also trialing sweetcorn and tomatoes (haven't photographed the toms yet but they are doing well and ripening nicely).

The corn are fattening up quite well and, so far, have produced two corn per plant with a third just beginning to show on one plant. As I don't normally grow corn I don't know how many to expect per plant.

So sorry to hear about your recent mishap. Must be painful. I wish you a speedy recovery. Since joining GC, I have alwats considered you to be a man of travel etc.

I admit to being a bit of a loner, but if the chance ever arrived. I can well imagine an evening is some country pub around the log fire and to get you talking, and relating some of your experiences. I recall some time ago. I mentioned that as a young police officer, I was stationed at Park Row. East Greenwich. You posted a photo of that police station as having been bombed during the blitz. The station I was attached to was actually in Park Vista, just outside Greenwich park. It was still called Park Row. Strange how things turn out. Another GC member. Our Hon. friend Wise Owl. He worked in Greewich Park. We never met, but we both share a great love for roses.

Whose turn to get the drinks in. Best wishes. Mike.

Going past the bottom of my garden there's a single track road that leads nowhere, and I've created a small herbaceous patch there on the old driveway (which was not used any more.)

It's only a rough construction (I'm not very god with DIY !) but it is quite colourful and better to look at than an old disused driveway

Sometimes I take my morning coffee or my afternoon tea down there and sit on the wall by the little road and chat to passers-by. Some of them enjoy gardening and I have given lots of cuttings and plants away, and also had some in return

There is not that much looking good in my garden at the moment. A lot of it came and went very early. There are a few things that are enjoying a second flush. Hopefully there will be a few more soon.
