Still sitting out enjoying the lovely cooler evening, the borders are gradually filling out and looking more lively with colour now that the heat has dropped .....pity the same can't be said for the lawns.

The wild poppies on our front verge continue to give us a wonderful display every morning. They open with the dawn and drop away by lunchtime. Then new ones take their place.

The far end is whited out by the sun (our road works are a normal part of our scenery as they appear a few times a year and the problem rarely gets fixed!)

We have hundreds of these poppies growing wild and they spread like mad through the all the beds, veg plots and even the lawns - but they don't grow in the dedicated wild area

      The bees love them

The rose is also wild and we think it may have come through from the neighbour. Don't really know so shall have to pop round and look.

        It's snowing! :heehee:

We bought three Verbascum chaixii from Beth Chatto 50 years ago and they, also, have spread themselves through the garden. It's another favourite of bees

Mallow is another one that we didn't plant but spreads itself nicely through the garden (our garden philosophy is that if something is self-seeded or sown by the wildlife it can remain whilst it's not in the way)
        P1570749.JPG

Stachys (Lamb's Ears) is another favourite of the bees and the sound of buzzing is very loud

        Alliums are starting to seed
        P1570730.JPG

Although we did plant the Bronze Fennel originally it is now beginning to make a nuisance of itself by seeding everywhere. This one is 50ft from the original
        P1570721.JPG

Another plant that can take over a garden if not careful is Alchemilla mollis (known as Lady's Mantle because of the leaf shape) but is used a great deal by flower arrangers

These 2 peachy ones (not the first photo, I have my snaps all muddled )are my ‘Just Joey’. Lovely flowers I think, but the stems grow far too long and straggly and need staking. I cut them back very hard in spring and it’s just the same, so perhaps I actually have a climber (?). 677ECD3A-FC6E-4CDC-AB83-F56976D1CF89.jpeg 137BBA63-4EC0-4706-AB57-6B32A28CAA80.jpeg
