    thanks Kristen, it doesnt get morning sun for sure, right now i have my portable greenhouse in front of it, but it gets good sun time after noonish.. there are lots of camellias in teh neighbourhood, big/huge ones too and they are studded with buds.. so i am guessing the soil generally is ideal. I am hopeful for buds may be next year, will give it some rose compost and manure as well.

    nFrost- I understand your pain. I dunno what I will do if they dont flower next year :(

      Ok I realise the photo is rubbish but just had to take a picture of our huge resident pheasant who's looking wonderful and has his new "clothes" as probably about to breed with a hen Pheasant I saw closeby. He has been sharing my horses feeds all winter, and yes he is actually IN the horse's feed bowl, very partial to the bruised oats! Heard 1 hell of a racket this afternoon and went to investigate. He was busy fighting his reflection from the chrome on husband's car trim. EEEK better not say anything as "Philip" might have scratched husband's pride and joy...I'll keep stoom!

        I potted up my Cordylines yesterday, I have 4 varieties, none the common or garden green or purple ones;

        Electric Pink, a clump forming variety rather than one that develops a trunk
        Picture 070.jpg

        Red Lance, a lovely wine red coloured one with very long stiff leaves
        Picture 068.jpg

        Torbay Dazzler, the common variegated one
        Picture 071.jpg

        An unamed purple and green variegated variety, possibly another clump former

          While taking a break from digging over the vegetable plot yesterday, I had a quick wander round the garden with the camera. A few things which caught my eye.

          Polyanthus 'Crescendo White'.

                      Beautiful and unusual flowers @JWK That gold lace primula is precious, did you know that in victorian era people used to put this flower pot behind a black photoframe. Just so to gaze at the sheer beauty for hours..

                        I'm really pleased it's making a good show now, it's attached to next door's fence which blew over in the christmas gale, it spent a month on the ground under the fence panel and I thought it was a gonner :)

                          Once established it should be OK, mine took a couple of years to get going. With a name like that you'd expect it to be a tough little blighter :)
